Privacy Policy
Change notice (26 July 2026). This site now uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies in your browser. An earlier version of this policy said the site ran no analytics and set no cookies. Section 2 below has been rewritten to describe what is actually collected.
The short version: the Home Rec app runs entirely on your Mac. It makes no network calls, sends no telemetry, and has no analytics. Your recordings stay on your device and we never see them. This website is separate: it uses Google Analytics to count visits and Download clicks, which does set cookies. We mention every third party we rely on below — there are only a few.
1. The Home Rec app
Home Rec captures audio playing through your Mac's system output and writes it to a local WAV file on your computer. The app uses Apple's ScreenCaptureKit framework, gated by the macOS Screen Recording permission you grant in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- The app makes no network connections of any kind.
- It sends no telemetry, analytics, crash reports, or usage data to us or anyone else.
- Recordings are written only to the local folder you choose. We never see them.
- The app does not include any third-party SDKs that collect data.

2. This website
This website is served as static HTML by our hosting provider, Vercel. Standard server logs (your IP address, user agent string, request time and path) may be kept by the host for operational purposes — see Vercel's privacy policy for retention details.
Google Analytics. This site loads Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-56GPLH521X) on every page, so we can see how many people visit and how many go on to download the app. It runs as soon as a page loads. Through it, Google processes on our behalf:
- which pages you view, when, and which site or search referred you;
- an approximate location (typically country, region and city) derived from your IP address — Google uses the IP address for this and does not log or store it in Analytics;
- technical details of your device: browser, operating system, screen size, and language;
- two interaction events we defined ourselves — download_click when a Download button is used, and buy_me_a_coffee_click when the support link is used. Each records only the link's URL and its visible label.
Cookies. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies in your browser — _ga and _ga_<id> — which hold a randomly generated identifier used to tell a returning visitor from a new one. They are not used to identify you by name, and we do not combine them with any other data.
How long it is kept. Our Analytics property is set to retain event-level and user-level data for 14 months, after which Google deletes it. Because we also have Google's "reset on new activity" option enabled, that 14 months is counted from your most recent visit rather than your first — so if you keep coming back, the window keeps moving. One caveat we would rather state plainly: this window covers the detailed underlying data, not the aggregate totals Google derives from it. Summary statistics, such as how many visits a month saw, are not deleted on that schedule.
How to opt out. You can block this entirely: use a content blocker, turn off JavaScript for this site, or install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Nothing on this site stops working if you do — the site is plain static HTML. Google's own terms for this data are in the Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites.
We do not run A/B testing, advertising pixels, session recording, or heat mapping on this site, and we do not sell or share this data with anyone.
3. Donations (Buy Me a Coffee)
If you support the project at buymeacoffee.com/melissadebritto, your payment is processed entirely by Buy Me a Coffee under their own privacy policy: buymeacoffee.com/privacy-policy. We only see what they share with us — typically your display name (if you provided one) and any message you chose to attach. We do not receive payment-card or banking information.
4. GitHub
Issues, pull requests, discussions, and other interactions on our repository at github.com/melissa-pereira-deel/home-rec are governed by GitHub's Privacy Statement and are public by default. We see whatever GitHub shows project maintainers (username, profile information you make public, contents of your contributions).
5. Your rights (LGPD / GDPR)
The app collects nothing, so there is nothing held about you there. For this website, the analytics data described in section 2 is pseudonymous — it is tied to a random cookie identifier, not to your name or email — which means we usually cannot connect it to you even if you ask us to. The most reliable way to remove it is to clear this site's cookies in your browser and opt out using one of the methods above.
For data held by our processors (Google, Buy Me a Coffee, GitHub, Vercel), please also contact them directly using the links above — they are best positioned to act on requests concerning data they hold about you.

6. Who we are
Home Rec is an open-source project by Melissa de Britto, an individual developer, published under The Building Blocks Co. brand. "The Building Blocks Co." is the name used for projects published by Melissa de Britto; it is not a separate legal entity.

7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always at this URL, with the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be highlighted at the top of this page for at least 30 days.
